Precise instrumentation for moisture control

Endress+Hauser provides handheld devices and permanently installed inline sensors for reliable material moisture measurement in industrial applications. Battery-powered handheld devices enable fast spot checks for quality assurance, for example during production or incoming goods inspection. For continuous monitoring of moisture content directly in the process, robust inline sensors provide reliable real-time data, even at high temperatures and in abrasive media.

Reliable moisture measurement with TDR technology

Our sensors use Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), a proven guided radar technology for accurate moisture measurement. To determine the moisture content, a radar pulse is transmitted into the medium and analyzed based on its travel time and reflection characteristics. The measurement correlates with the dielectric properties of the material. Since water has a significantly higher dielectric constant than most bulk solids, moisture content can be determined with high accuracy. Unlike infrared moisture meters, TDR technology measures not only surface moisture but also moisture within the material and free water.

TDR technology is ideally suited for measuring moisture in bulk solids, powders, granulates, as well as in pasty and viscous media. Solitrend sensors therefore support reliable moisture monitoring in industries such as building materials production, wood processing and food manufacturing. They help ensure consistent product quality, stable process conditions and optimized resource utilization by enabling efficient drying processes, reduced energy consumption and precise water dosing during mixing operations.
